Hello, Max, and welcome back to our wonderfully ponderous place where friends and followers, old and new, can join us and discover what we've learned most recently about the magical world. Since this environment is the setting for the Buggy Crenshaw books as well as Magpie & Dilly, this is an excellent stop to make prior to scampering off to Amazon.com where all such books are available.
First and foremost: hello and welcome, especially to our new followers. Delighted to have you all here. As many of you already know, the offerings we make here are based on the research I've been conducting for my next Buggy Crenshaw book. While going through my notes and other references, I happened across a number of journals belonging to the Sorceress Mary Morgan. It is this material with which I have become most enthralled, particularly after these past several weeks since it's come to my attention that our world and that of the magical are about to collide! (Newcomers: please visit the archives for all posts leading to this present report.)

By announcing my intention to carefully study Mary Morgan's journals, I unknowingly opened the door through which some utterly amazing characters have brazenly marched! For instance, this fellow to your right, a Mr. Solomon (Solo) Sleekwood, was featured in last week's report for being the Deviant that he is. While I was visiting Bartleby's Hollow Internment Facility for information on the escaped (and still at large, by the way) Werewolf Tidivacious Ne'erdowell, it so happened that Solo Sleekwood had devilishly pilfered the iPad belonging to the resident Warden Millicent Manly. He then proceeded to use it to try to bargain with me. I can only suspect he wanted his freedom in exchange for the information he offered pertaining to his fellow Deviant Mr. Ne'erdowell.
Bluntly stated, Mr. Sleekwood's extortion attempt failed miserably when I revisited the Internment Facility to inform Warden Manly of the whereabouts of her iPad. In exchange for my assistance in this matter, Warden Manly kindly offered me a glimpse of Solomon Sleekwood's file:
I'll admit, I was rather pleased with this offering and made great use of the freedom she allowed me to study the Deviant's folder. In addition, I was granted access to other files and case notes that I was more than pleased to peruse! (In particular, those of the Deviants Mortimer Kilsmore and the escaped Werewolf Mr. Ne'erdowell.)
However, even as generous as were these offerings, I had one other small request in mind. Since I had every intention of documenting my visit to this facility here at Ponderous Things, I likewise asked (again) for a photo of the warden. Last week when I inquired, she refused without reservation. (If you'll remember, her words precisely were, "No comment! No photo!")
I'm happy to say this week was different. No doubt my rapport with the public by way of this site persuaded Warden Millicent Manly to cooperate or risk my blabbing her incompetence all over the Internet (for the Werewolf's escape as well as for allowing the theft of her iPad by one of her own Deviants). The Warden grudingly acquiesced:
Even so, since Warden Manly had so adamantly refused my earlier requests, I was quite certain she would never allow her image to be shared with the public. In fact, I was beginning to have very strong suspicions as to why this public figure did not wish to be seen in public, but when I carefully phrased this worry, the Warden expertly sidestepped the issue and promised good behavior.
Still...despite Warden Manly's dubious vows of innocence, I could not dash my expectation that she would put some sort of whammy or other....magical mischief....to work on the photo in order to bar its publication. For that very reason, I stopped on my way out of the facility and cleverly snapped a photo of the photo!
And! Wouldn't you know it? The moment I was outside Bartleby's Hollow, traversing its sprawling borderland back to this non-magical place, this is exactly what happened to the original:
Please join us here next week for the real portrait of resident Warden Millicent Manly! Until then, keep your eyes open for that Werewolf who still runs amok, and by all means, do dream big!
P.S. For more delightful tales from the magical world, please consider investing in Magpie & Dilly, the prequel to the Buggy Crenshaw series of books. And thank you for stopping by.
